Welcome to the Rare Signals recording studio

The Rare Signals studio builds on the legacy that was firmly put in place by Boston’s legendary Zippah Recording which was destroyed by fire in Dec of 2021. Its 33 year legacy and success was a byproduct of the strong music community and the passion for making outstanding records by producer Brian Charles and his incredible team. That passion lives on in a big way with what can only be described as a “dream studio” located in the vibrant Central Square area of Cambridge, MA. The space has a history of its own, and previously housed Andy Hong’s (TapeOp Magazine) personal studio where many incredible records were crafted. Since changing hands we called on renowned studio designer and acoustics genius, Lou Clark (Sonic Space) as well as Soundwall construction to expand the square footage and renovate to offer functional isolation booths and a live room that just sounds incredible. The control room is outfitted with a Rupert Neve Designs 5088 Shelford console and a carefully selected array of vintage and boutique outboard gear. Be sure to check out the equipment list, which includes an amazing microphone collection, vintage and boutique amplifiers and guitars and two remarkable pianos – a Yamaha U-1 and a 1917 Steinway Model O grand.
